What started as a way to mend the economic hardships shortly after 2001 has evolved into a new form of artistic expression for me. I have always loved the arts, whether they involve a pen and paper or a pair of dancing shoes. My inspiration originated with flowers and the ornate arranging of them, which turned into making accessories to go with them. . .
First came a series of fun fridge magnets featuring little baskets of flowers. Each sprig and petal was hand placed in a 1-inch basket and glued to secure the arrangement. I experimented with a musical line which featured miniature varnished vinyl records, a huge success with all my disc jockey friends.
Next came the cards, which evolved over the past seven years into something I could never be prouder of. My concept is that they, just like us are beautiful inside and out. So I started placing little details on the inside to reflect the artwork placed outside. All tiles are hand cut and matted 3 times to give them a three-dimensional feel. All the glitter is done by hand, my hands to be exact.
Over the past few years my pieces just became smaller and smaller, until vases were under and inch tall. Thus solving the obnoxious question of where to put the giant bouquet of flowers on the cluttered table. All it takes is a few sprigs of your neighbors’ plants or a pinch greens to fill these little guys. I still enjoy making vases and pots of all sizes but it is something about the small ones that reminds me how tiny gestures can create giant smiles.
Most work ranges from 1-3 inches and due to the nature of ceramics each peace is truly unique and certainly one of a kind.
Each card is filled with words of happiness and inspiration in order to support my mission of spreading positive energy throughout the world.
